Kumamoto-based sculptor Kohei Azuma’s “NEWSPAPER ANIMALS – Animals Made from Newspapers” exhibition will be held in a department store for the first time. The approximately 50 works featured in this exhibition were made entirely from everyday materials: newspapers and cellophane tape. By rolling up and stacking newspapers and using printed text and photos as patterns, the exhibitors create shapes that depict animals like giraffes, penguins, and cats in a realistic yet humorous way. As a special feature of this exhibition, we will also be exhibiting and selling original works made from the “Kumamoto Mon Newspaper,” a newspaper-style promotional medium created for an event last October. In addition, on the weekends, we will be holding a hands-on workshop where you can create your own miniature animals using newspaper. Experience the joy of watching a newspaper transform into a three-dimensional object. *Reservations are required for the workshop. For more information, please visit the Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin Store website. *The image is an example of the artwork. The exhibited works may be subject to change. Thank you for your understanding. It all started with the idea of ”making something that everyone can enjoy together using familiar materials.” That’s why this piece is so appealing, and can be enjoyed by a wide range of people, from children to adults. Workshops and demonstrations will also be held at the venue, where you can watch the “newspaper creatures” take shape right before your eyes. Instead of just looking at the artwork, why not purchase it and incorporate it into your daily life? ●Locally Rooted Innovation

The monochrome color palette typical of newspaper is complemented by a playful touch, such as a chicken with a red crest, printed in color. Their insight into the local area and humorous expressions will bring a smile to your face. ●Sold-out exhibition held in Fukuoka for the first time His first solo exhibition, held in 2024, garnered a huge response, with all 100 pieces on display selling out. This expression, nurtured in Kumamoto, will finally make its first appearance in Fukuoka. This is a rare opportunity to not only view the works, but also purchase them and incorporate them into your daily life. Weekend Workshops for Adults and Children
