Kumamoto-based sculptor Kohei Azuma’s “NEWSPAPER ANIMALS – Animals Made from Newspapers” exhibition will be held in a department store for the first time. The approximately 50 works featured in this exhibition were made entirely from everyday materials: newspapers and cellophane tape. By rolling up and stacking newspapers and using printed text and photos as patterns, the exhibitors create shapes that depict animals like giraffes, penguins, and cats in a realistic yet humorous way. As a special feature of this exhibition, we will also be exhibiting and selling original works made from the “Kumamoto Mon Newspaper,” a newspaper-style promotional medium created for an event last October. In addition, on the weekends, we will be holding a hands-on workshop where you can create your own miniature animals using newspaper.
