Press release: October 2, 2025 To Members of the Press [Notable Nonfiction] Two books, “LIFTOFF” and “REENTRY,” tracing the history of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, are being published simultaneously! Kagaku Dojin Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City, President and CEO: Sone Ryosuke will simultaneously publish two books, “LIFTOFF” and “REENTRY,” on October 5th, tracing the history of SpaceX, the American space company led by Elon Musk, since its founding. SpaceX has firmly established itself as a private space company, building the Starlink satellite constellation and other projects. However, in its early days, it was a startup focused on rocket development and worried about running out of funds after a series of launch failures. We take a look behind the scenes to see how this startup has come to have such an impact on global space policy. It’s also worth noting that Shoko Nakagawa, a talent known for her love of space, has written a recommendation for “LIFTOFF,” and Soichi Noguchi, an astronaut who has flown on a SpaceX rocket, has written a recommendation for “REENTRY.”

construction of the Starlink satellite constellation and the transportation of people aboard the Dragon spacecraft. But behind these spectacular achievements, troublesome problems also arise one after another, including seemingly insurmountable technical
challenges, unexplained explosions, and Elon Musk’s seemingly reckless demands. The work of the SpaceX people as they tackle these challenges is one of the book’s highlights. And will Elon Musk’s ambition since the company’s founding—to colonize Mars—someday become a reality?

A passionate drama about people who are seriously building rockets to open up the infinite dream of space. SpaceX is a company where these brave people build an environment that makes research and development easy, shortcutting through obstacles. Space stories depicted in movies, anime, and manga may become a reality thanks to SpaceX! I felt like I could see the dazzling starry sky of the future between the lines! Do your best, don’t give up, SpaceX! Recommendation by Soichi Noguchi Innovation is ‘creative destruction’! Is Elon Musk, who continues to revolutionize
spaceflight, an antithesis to Japanese society, which is obsessed with predictable harmony? ■About the Author Eric Berger As the senior space editor for the technology news site Ars Technica, he covers everything from space ventures to NASA policy.
