Cassina IXC Co., Ltd. Press Release: October 2, 2025 IXC reissues the “HAL” series designed by Shiro Kuramata A unique presence that transcends the boundaries between art and design. Cassina ixc. Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Alessio Giacomel) will exhibit and present the new IXC collection at Cassina ixc. stores starting Thursday, October 16, 2025. In 2025, IXC will mark the 50th anniversary of the brand’s founding, and will rebrand with a new vision based on the theme of “Emotional
Minimalism.” A project has been launched to connect this trajectory to the future. This is the second installment, following the new collection by GamFratesi, which was announced in March. This time, from the IXC archives, we have reproduced two masterpieces by Shiro Kuramata, the “HAL2” chair and table, as products that symbolize the brand’s philosophy and aesthetic sense. The timeless and original design brings a new sensibility to modern spaces.

The backrest is made of expanded metal, a material made by stretching metal into a mesh-like structure. It combines visual lightness with structural strength, creating a unique floating feeling in the space. The seat, combined with a minimalist steel frame, is made of OSB board, which accentuates the texture of the material, and a cushioned seat that ensures functionality and comfort. Kuramata’s consistent pursuit of “the fusion of form and poetry” is truly alive and well in this chair. Its sculptural appearance changes its expression depending on the environment in which it is used. This chair transcends the realm of furniture and exists as an art piece, and continues to fascinate design enthusiasts around the world.

The tabletop is made of OSB board, the same as the HAL2 chair, and the random texture of the wood chips adds warmth and individuality to the simple form. The legs have a lustrous chrome-plated polished finish, accentuating the table’s sharp appearance. The cross legs, which are designed to intersect toward the floor, are a distinctive feature of this table. It combines lightness with stability, adding a visually modern accent. With a compact diameter of 600mm, it blends naturally into modern lifestyles as a cafe table or side table, allowing you to experience Kuramata’s pursuit of “a fusion of function and poetry” in your everyday space. Its art-piece-like appearance brings a quiet presence to the place where it is placed. Shirou Kuramata | Interior Designer Born in Tokyo in 1934.
