https://prcdn.freetls.fastly.net/release_image/69859/1175/69859-1175-10a6b3930c67937fc58038d57dfd8a5d-2110×500.jpg As part of Takashimaya’s sustainable action “TSUNAGU ACTION,” Takashimaya Osaka will be hosting the industry-academia collaboration project “Re:Local Material – The Future Born Behind the Scenes of Department Stores” for 21 days from Wednesday, October 8th to Tuesday, October 28th. Under the supervision of contemporary design studio [we ], students from Osaka University of Arts are reinterpreting cardboard and cushioning materials discarded daily in the back yard of Takashimaya Osaka as “new, indigenous materials” rooted in everyday life and reusing them as exhibited works, creating new value. Through fieldwork and persistent trial and error, the students discovered the properties and new possibilities of the materials. On the first floor front stage, a number of works will be displayed, assembled like a “piece of cloth.” Additionally, on the fourth floor Rose Patio, the production process and actual exhibits will be displayed, introducing the process by which ideas take shape.
