As queen of the kingdoms of Ndongo and Matamba, she bravely resisted Portuguese colonial rule and maintained her country’s independence with her brilliant diplomatic strategy and spiritual strength. The designs that appeared on the runway were sprinkled with elements symbolizing Queen Nzinga, such as the golden crown, crimson robes, and powerful silhouettes, vividly expressing a strong and beautiful story woven together by tradition and modernity. The Intersection of Tradition and Modernity: New Expressions of Modern Africa This collection, “Raizes Tecidos com “Historia” (Roots Woven with History) infuses Angolan culture and ancestral memories into the designer’s own textiles, featuring meticulous depictions of flora and fauna, Kalandula Falls, Queen Nzinga Mbandi, the Iron Palace, the Slavery Museum, the Luanda Fortress, Portuguese ships, and motifs symbolizing the 21 provinces. These original fabric designs are exquisitely blended with
high-quality materials such as sheer organza, lustrous duchesse satin, delicate lace, and the rich, structured mikado. A total of 14 looks appeared on the runway, captivating the audience with their brilliance and power. The color scheme was also striking, with earthy natural browns layered with passionate reds and iconic golds, creating a visual world where African identity resonated with modern
sensibilities. Tradition and innovation intersect, creating a truly striking stage performance that reflected a new expression of contemporary Africa.
