Kambara-Tsuneishi Cultural Foundation Press Release: October 4, 2025 The major architectural event, “Hiroshima International Architecture Festival 2025,” kicks off today! Period: October 4th (Sat) – November 30th (Sun), 2025 The Kambara-Tsuneishi Cultural Foundation (Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture,
Representative: Representative Director Kambara Katsunari) kicked off the Hiroshima International Architecture Festival 2025 (hereinafter referred to as the “Architecture Festival”), a major 58-day
architecture event focusing on 23 groups, from globally active architects to up-and-coming artists, today, Saturday, October 4, 2025, at seven venues in Fukuyama City and Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. This architecture festival’s mission is to propose future urban development through architecture, cultivate children’s sensibilities, promote regional revitalization, and pass on famous architecture to future generations. This year marks the first time the festival will be held, and it will continue to serve as a forum for promoting architectural culture, once every three years. This first-time event will be held at the Onomichi City Museum of Art, designed by architect Tadao Ando, showcasing nine Japanese architects from eight groups who have won the Pritzker Architecture Prize, considered the Nobel Prize of the architectural world. In the museum’s front garden, a “paper log house” designed by award winner Shigeru Ban for the areas affected by the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake will be installed. Shinshoji Temple will also be
exhibiting. The Zen and Garden Museum will introduce the works and ideas of some of Japan’s leading architects, including a one-third scale model of Kenzo Tange’s own home, which is planned to be recreated in Fukuyama, as well as related exhibits, and a project Sou Fujimoto is currently planning for the Seto Inland Sea. Through these diverse exhibits, we will provide an opportunity to think together about future society from the perspective of architectural culture. Furthermore, mobile kiosks designed by Yasushi Horibe, Junya Ishigami, and Hideyuki Nakayama will also be appearing as small pieces of architecture in the cities of Fukuyama and Onomichi, bringing architecture closer to people’s lives. Furthermore, we will also be holding a variety of programs, including talk events by architects, workshops for parents and children, and film screenings related to architecture.
