Agency for Cultural Affairs Press Release: October 4, 2025 [National Film Archive] Notice of Barrier-Free Screening of “And Then” / “(Haru)” Even those with visual or hearing impairments can enjoy classic Japanese films. On Saturday, November 15, 2025, the National Film Archive of Japan will be holding barrier-free screenings of “And Then” (1985) and “(Haru)” (1996) as part of the “Film Director Yoshimitsu Morita” screening project. We offer Japanese subtitles for the hearing impaired and a hearing loop system to amplify the film’s audio. We also offer FM radio broadcasts of audio guides for the visually impaired, and we also offer rental radios. In addition to the novelty of the subject matter, Morita’s precise and sensitive direction, including subtitles that skillfully convey the characters’ psychological changes and Takase Hiroshi’s cinematography, which was inspired by the paintings of Edward Hopper, create a universal drama of communication.
