(C)️NTV “Shoten Tokudai-ga” airs every Tuesday from 8 PM on BS Nippon Television. On the October 7th broadcast, Hayashiya Taihei, along with young rakugo performers Mukase Mukasetei Noboru and Hayashiya Kiyohiko, tours famous restaurants that have long been loved by storytellers around Yushima Tenjin Shrine, known as the god of learning. At the Japanese confectionery shop beloved by the
fifth-generation master Yanagiya Kosan, Hayashiya Kiyohiko encountered a mame daifuku with such a sophisticated flavor that it made him want to drink shochu. At Tensho Hirokoji, a tempura restaurant with ties to the third-generation master Kokontei Shincho, Taihei teaches the younger generation how to eat tempura in his master’s style. At “UNOS,” a theater that continues the tradition of yose-style calligraphy, you can observe the artisans’ skills up close, and learn all about the profound charm of Yushima, a place steeped in culture and history.
