This cafe will function as a design showroom, allowing customers to experience design with all five senses while immersed in the real world of American vintage. (Headquarters: Yokohama City, CEO: Yuzo Osaki) (hereinafter “Axion”) will open “Kelly,” a new design cafe with an American vintage theme, in Ishikawacho, Yokohama on Monday, October 13, 2025. Axion has worked on numerous vintage design buildings and converted hotels utilizing old buildings. The design concepts offered fall into three categories: “European Modern,” “Japanese Modern,” and “American Vintage,” and “Kelly” is an American vintage design brand. The design cafe “Kelly” was planned to allow many people to experience the world of American vintage in a personal and real way. The store’s name is a reference to the famous Hollywood actress Grace Kelly, and we offer original blend coffees inspired by her glory days in the 1950s, as well as original chocolates and alcoholic beverages designed to pair perfectly with each coffee. ＜The visual art team used mortar molding to realistically recreate the world of fiction. ＞ For production and construction, art direction was handled by Yukiyuki Tsubota (head of the design department at Accion; profile attached), who has worked as an art director and art director in the film industry. We directed the decorative production by a visual art team that has worked on numerous films, famous TV dramas, and theme parks, along with a mortar artist. To create an immersive experience that makes you feel as if you’ve traveled back in time to 1950s America, the era of Grace Kelly, and entered a scene from a movie, we paid meticulous attention to the fine details. Rather than simply creating a “vintage look,” we used “authentic details” and a “space with a story” to create an immersive experience like a scene from a movie using mortar art. Using exposed brickwork with parts of the wall crumbling, heavy retro antique arch decorations, woodwork that has been polished to time and has an impressive presence, and aging techniques that create a sense of aging, we have realistically recreated a space that has been marked by the accumulation of time since the 1950s.
