In 1995, Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture, established the cultural facility “Ichihara City Water and Sculpture Hill.” Until its reopening as the Ichihara Lakeside Museum in 2013, the facility housed over 700 artworks. This exhibition will showcase a selection of works from that collection. The exhibition will feature works by 11 artists with ties to Ichihara, centered around Yukio Fukazawa, one of Japan’s leading copperplate engravers. This is an exhibition that “re-collects” works from the storage facility. This exhibition was organized with the hope of allowing visitors to rediscover and enjoy Ichihara City’s collection before the museum’s planned extended closure from January to March 2026. This exhibition offers a glimpse into a wide variety of artistic expressions, including large-scale Japanese paintings, oil paintings, and celadon porcelain, which have rarely been on public display until now. “Re-collection” is a coined word combining the word “recollection,” which means “memories” or “recollection.” We hope that through the works of the 11 exhibiting artists, you will recall the landscapes they have seen, the people and animals they remember, and their emotions.

The exhibition will resemble a snapshot of a part of Fukasawa’s studio, featuring antique tools that were a source of inspiration for Yukio Fukasawa, who continued to create copperplate prints until his later years, as well as printmaking tools he developed himself.
