Graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo and completed the Graduate School of Engineering at the same university. Made his debut as a writer in 2011. In 2012, his work “Umizake” (Sea Sake) won the Grand Prize at the Jitsuryusha Short Story Contest. “Umishu” was made into a short film starring Peace’s Matayoshi Naoki and screened at the Cannes Film Festival and other events. He has served as jury president for the Botchan Literary Award and has been holding short story writing classes across the country since 2013, making him a leader in the contemporary short story genre. The content of his writing classes will be included in the Japanese language textbooks for fourth grade elementary school students (Kyoiku Publishing) from 2020. His novel “Sakuracho” will be included in the Japanese language textbooks for first grade junior high school students (Kyoiku Publishing) from 2021. In 2017, he launched “Short Shorts Garden,” a website for submitting 400-character works, in an effort to further popularize the genre. His many books include “Umi-iro no Bottle” and the “Otogi Company” series.
