“Music in the Dark(R)” is a concert featuring a combined ensemble of visually impaired and non-visually impaired musicians. The concert takes place in a darkened space with all the lights turned off, allowing both performers and audience members to experience music through a holistic approach that heightens senses other than sight. This event has been hosted by Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall five times to date. This time, the shakuhachi ensemble “Fuga Takein,” led by shakuhachi player Dozan Fujiwara, will return for the second time in five years, following their performance at the Yokohama Noh Theater in 2021. Other performers who support the project’s purpose include koto player Yuji Sawamura, soprano Yuina Koshio, and percussionist Yoshiko Kanda. In addition, various support measures will be available on the day of the performance for visually impaired guests. This project aims to foster a deeper understanding of the essence of music and visual impairment, and to realize a society where everyone can “live together” through the arts. Highlights of this performance 1. An unknown musical experience shared between the stage and the audience in the dark.
