Up-and-coming pianist and composer friqtao has released his debut EP, “Lifestream.” The five-track EP explores emotion, memory, and imagination, including the captivating focus track “Woke Up in Japan” and the breakout track “Run Away,” which garnered buzz when it was released earlier this month. From “livestream” to “lifestream.” The title of the EP, “Lifestream,” pays homage to his past. “It’s a play on the word ‘livestream,’ and represents my social media activity to date and the new direction I’m aiming for,” says Friktao. “It might sound corny, but musically it’s about the whole picture of life and all its facets. The moods of the songs range from optimistic to serene, from intense to nostalgic. I wanted to portray all the facets of life’s diverse yet very real human experience. Hence the title ‘Lifestream,’ all the streams that life has to offer.” Written and performed entirely by Friktao himself, the EP “Lifestream” is a collection of piano-driven compositions that pause, touch, and inspire. Each track ranges from meditative and minimal to epic and emotional, rooted in classical technique yet influenced by modern storytelling, and harmoniously executed. “Modern people are constantly bombarded with tasks, news, information, and stimulation, and we’ve forgotten how to stop and feel,” he says. Opening track “Lifestream” sets the tone for the EP, kicking off with sparse, innocent tones and gradually evolving into a rich, layered performance that showcases his maturity as a pianist. “The title track, ‘Lifestream,’ represents my encounter with the piano and my journey. The opening performance was inspired by the feeling I had when I first played the instrument as a child.
