[New Release] “Unknown” Design Work. “Exhibition Booth Design” – A book explaining 105 methods for attracting visitors, on sale October 15th.
Super Penguin Press release: October 11, 2025 To Members of the Press [New Book] “Unknown” Design Work. “Exhibition Booth Design,” a book explaining 105 methods for attracting visitors, will be released on October 15th. A publication commemorative talk event will be held at the Aoyama Book Center Main Branch on Sunday, October 26th at 6 PM. “Little-known” Everyone knows about exhibitions, but not many people actually know the details of the work involved in designing the booths that make up the venue. And that’s no surprise. There are very few schools that teach this design work, and the industry is quite closed off, with few opportunities for anyone outside the industry to come into contact with it. How do you feel when you hear that booth design work could have a major impact on attracting customers to stores and commercial facilities in the future? Naohisa Takemura, CEO and exhibition designer at SUPER PENGUIN Inc. (headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo), which calls itself “the first penguin of the exhibition industry,” will release his book, “Exhibition Booth Design: 105 Techniques to Attract Visitors,” on October 15, 2025. In addition, to commemorate the release, a publication commemorative talk event will be held at the Aoyama Book Center main branch on Sunday, October 26th from 6:00 PM. The author will talk about the background to the book, his work designing exhibition booths, and his unique “PENGUIN METHOD” design method for attracting customers. He will also be available to interact with attendees. Please take this opportunity to pick up a copy of the new book and come visit the venue.

1. Book Contents ■The job of “exhibition booth design” is equivalent to “zero awareness” In the design industry, especially in the world of spatial design, it’s said that there’s no other design job more unknown than “exhibition booth design.” And that’s no surprise. There are very few schools that teach it, and many people only learn about it after entering the workforce. There are also no easy-to-understand magazines aimed at the general public, and exhibitions where actual products are displayed are generally closed to those involved. Not only that, author Takemura says, “Even within the same spatial design business, there’s a big gap between the architecture/interior design industry and the exhibition industry.” That’s why even people working in architecture and interior design rarely know much about this work. ■Design to attract visitors in three days “Designing to produce results in three days” booth design involves more than just creating a beautiful design. It also involves how to attract visitors, engage in business negotiations, and achieve results from your exhibit. It requires a variety of skills beyond simply creating a space. Author Takemura calls this type of spatial design technique “business space design.” This newly published book is a compilation and
systematization of the insights gained from author Takemura’s observations of booths he has designed himself. While his previous work was primarily text-based, this one features one technique per spread, interspersed with diagrams, illustrations, and text. It concisely explains 105 techniques. ■Customer Attraction Know-How That Can Be Applied to Stores Exhibition booths are spatial designs that must attract customers in just three days, and can be described as “temporary architecture, ephemeral spaces.” Author Takemura believes that the nature of exhibition booths, such as their limited-time nature, display methods designed to “assess” potential, and high tenant turnover, is very similar to the nature of commercial facilities, particularly commercial spaces such as pop-ups. This is why the exhibition booth design techniques introduced in this book may have the potential to bring about major changes in store customer attraction and, ultimately, in the future of commercial facilities. This book is practical and aimed not only at architecture and design professionals, but also at all practitioners involved in commercial spaces, such as exhibition and sales promotion staff, stores, and restaurants. It also clearly lists pages that link to my previous book, “Creating an Exhibition Booth That Attracts Customers,” making it useful for both existing and new readers. ■Excerpt from the Table of Contents Chapter 1: “Thinking Methods” –The “Business Space Design” Way of Thinking 001.
