For breakfast, we had a bento box, a specialty of Yanai Station in Yamaguchi Prefecture! The two indulge in a rare bento box that was sold in limited quantities during the Blue Train’s service days. They start the morning with a premium meal. We say goodbye to Ginga in Tokuyama. From here, we move on to the travel segment exploring the charms of Yamaguchi Prefecture… The prefecture was chosen by The New York Times as one of the “52 Places to Visit in 2024.” First, we visit an amazing restaurant that Tomochika visited on location. The restaurant has a whopping 6,600 square meters of floor space! The gimmicks, shops, and attractions that go beyond the typical restaurant concept bring back childhood memories for the two. Enjoy the restaurant’s signature dishes, crisply grilled over charcoal, at a restaurant with a hearth, a Japanese-style kitchen, and tables surrounded by nature with a clear stream flowing by. When we saw families with children, the conversation naturally turned to family talk. When Reiji revealed an episode about his son’s obsession, Tomochika expressed concern, saying, “Won’t he no longer be able to relate to his classmates?” ■Tour of Hawaii by Tuk-Tuk? Their next destination was the tropical-feeling Suo-Oshima. It’s a sister island with Kauai, Hawaii, and is known as the “Hawaii of the Seto Inland Sea.” The couple’s transportation here is a tuk-tuk! Reiji drives them around the island. They’re greeted by hula dancers on the beach! But they gasp in surprise at their true identities… The finale of their trip is a stay at a traditional inn. The proprietress and young proprietress of this long-established inn, selected for 37 consecutive years as one of the “Top 100 Hotels and Inns in Japan Selected by Professionals,” welcome them. Apparently, this hostess is a talented entertainer, surprising even Tomochika… Before going on stage, the two indulged in a luxurious kaiseki meal, a full course of fugu. “Isn’t this super luxurious?” Tomochika exclaimed, stunned. Reiji added, “Well, I mean, I entered this world because I admired this kind of thing.” While the two were in such a relaxed mood, a member of staff made a ruthless announcement. Tomochika was shocked, saying, “You’re kidding! You should have told me already!” What was the reason…? And finally, there was an entertainment show by the landladies!
