October 13, 2025 (Reiwa 7) Okayama University, National University Corporation https://www.okayama-u.ac.jp/ ◆Overview The Glee Club of Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City; President: Yasutomo Nasu) participated in the 64th Chugoku Choral Competition held at JMS Aster Plaza (Hiroshima Prefecture) on September 20, 2025, and won the Gold Award in the University Youth Division of the General University Workplace Category for the second consecutive year! Seven groups selected as representatives at the Chugoku region’s prefectural competitions participated in the competition. Rankings were determined by majority vote of the judges. Principal conductor Himeko Komiya (3rd year, Faculty of Education) expressed her gratitude to the members and said, “Through this competition, we were able to grow significantly technically. In particular, after the prefectural competition, we used the judges’ comments to improve the precision of our pitch and rhythm, and deepened our expression of emotion and scenery. As a result, we were able to deliver a more fulfilling performance than at the prefectural competition. Last year, we won the gold medal at the Chugoku competition for the first time in a long time, and our seniors showed us such a wonderful sight. We decided to take on the challenge again this year and enter this year’s competition. However, with about one-third of our members having changed since last year and the pieces we were working on being different, we were practically starting from scratch. There was pressure, but I was truly happy to see the members responding so hard during practice, and I once again realized the joy of creating music with friends. I hope this experience will inspire all our members to think, ‘Choral singing is great.'” The club has already begun preparations for its 72nd Regular Concert, to be held at Kurashiki City Art and Culture Hall on December 27th.
