The English title is “The Ex-Boyfriend’s Favorite Recipe Funeral Committee” It will be published in the US by CROWN and in the UK by Simon & Schuster UK. “Ex-Boyfriend Meal Burial Committee,” published in 2024, is a series of short stories about how accepting (burying) the pain of a broken heart allows you to once again enjoy the food you remember from your ex-boyfriend. The Japanese version has received a great deal of attention since its release, and we have received numerous inquiries about adapting it into a film. Translation offers poured in from all over the world Immediately after publication, translation offers poured in from various countries, including Taiwan, South Korea, and Thailand. Furthermore, in the United States, a special contracting method called “preempt” has been put into use. Preemption is a contracting method available only to top editors at America’s “Big Five” major publishing companies, and is only used when there is a strong desire to enter into a contract. This is an exclusive contract that halts negotiations with other publishers, and by its very nature, the terms offered are extremely high. For this reason, it is only invoked on a very limited number of important titles. In this case, Amy Einhorn, an editor at Crown Publishing, a major American publisher, invoked preemption for this book. This is extremely rare for a Japanese book, and demonstrates the high expectations for this work in the United States.
