Kawai: “Nakamaru-kun has always been someone who creates a relaxed atmosphere around him, so I was looking forward to working with him this time. However, it was the first time a senior had appeared on the show as a guest, so I was a little nervous, but it was great to be able to talk at length with him for the first time in two or three years.” Nakamaru: “Even though we were juniors back then, we used to share the same dressing room and work together every day, so it felt like those memories were coming back to me. It brought back some nostalgic memories.” 2.What is your favorite feature of this episode of “Utatama?” Kawai: “I tried human beatboxing during a session, and I want you to pay attention to my face at the time. I don’t even know what my face looked like (laughs).” Nakamaru: “I think it was an expression reminiscent of Ken Shimura. I think it’s so powerful that if you showed it to a crying baby or child, it might stop them crying (laughs). Please look forward to it.” Nakamaru: “I don’t really like showing off about myself, but this time I was grateful that they listened to things I don’t usually talk about. I think there might be some things I can share with my fans.” 3.You had some pretty deep conversations. Kawai: “That’s right. It’s been a while since I last saw you, so I had a lot of questions. I wanted to know what you were thinking during the COVID-19 pandemic when you were a junior backing member of KAT-TUN, so I ended up asking a lot of questions.” 4. I’d like to ask Nakamaru-san, Please tell us about your first meeting and your impressions with Kawai-san, who is serving as the MC for this show. Nakamaru: “Honestly, I don’t remember much at first, but I do have memories of when I first joined. Kawai hasn’t changed much since then. He’s still a joker, and I always got the impression he was a bit of a joker (laughs). I think it was partly because he was a kid, but on the other hand, I never got the impression he was ‘extremely serious’ back then (laughs).” 5.On the other hand, from Kawai’s perspective, what were your first experiences and impressions with Nakamaru? Kawai: “The actual time of admission is only about six months apart, but he’s older. Oh, how old is
Nakamaru-kun now?” Nakamaru: “I’m 42.” Kawai: “Yes, he’s the same age as my older brother. So I automatically thought of him as my older brother. Since he’s the same age as my older brother, I had a strong impression of him as someone much older than me. I don’t think he spoke to me much at first. I don’t even remember when we started talking normally. Before KAT-TUN, we didn’t spend much time together, so he was a distant presence, and I had a strong impression of him as a “senior.”” 6.Is there any surprising side to Nakamaru or anecdote that only you would know? Kawai: “I learned something for the first time during this recording, but I got to hear about that kind of behind-the-scenes activity he was doing while he was in the group. I had a strong image of Nakamaru-kun as someone who was the MC and kept the atmosphere together, but I realized he was also working hard behind the scenes. This was the first time I got to learn about that side of him. I think you’ll understand more if you watch the broadcast!” 7.Finally, please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the show. Nakamaru: “There are many programs that use a dialogue format to delve into deep conversations, but I think the appeal of this program is that we can delve into areas that are not typical. I hope you will enjoy watching that aspect.” Kawai: “It’s fun to discover something new each time I talk with my guests, but what I look forward to most is the ‘session’ part. This time, we had a session that only Nakamaru could do, and it resulted in a variety of combinations, including human beatboxing, illustrations, and collaborations with my guitar.
