From the experience of “watching” a film to the experience of “participating.” This event will recreate the world depicted in the short film in a real space, immersing the audience in the story as a character, offering a new and unprecedented experience. Participants will step into the story that follows the short film, interacting with the performers and being guided to the story’s conclusion. This is an active and immersive experience that goes beyond passive viewing. Highlights of the event 1. An “interlocking” structure that transcends the boundaries between film and experience. The structure allows viewers to experience the rest of the story rather than just watching a short film. What’s revolutionary about this film is that the world within the film is expanded into reality, allowing the audience to take part in the subsequent unfolding events as characters. 2. From passive viewing to active participation More than just “watching” a short film, it becomes an “active experience” where your own choices and actions drive the story. By allowing the audience to intervene in the film’s world, it creates a sense of immersion and psychological impact not found in traditional cinematic experiences. 3. First collaboration between a film festival and immersive entertainment This is the first joint project between SSFF & ASIA, Asia’s leading international short film festival, and Immersive Lab, which
specializes in experiential entertainment. This is a new, cross-genre cultural experiment that serves as a bridge between the film industry and the experiential event industry. SSFF & ASIA 2025 International Short Film Festival Autumn Overview Co-hosted by the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA), Asia’s largest international short film festival and recognized by the Academy Awards, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, this film festival will be screened at Akasaka Intercity Conference, Tokyo Photographic Art Museum Hall, and LIFORK Harajuku, as well as broadcast to the world via the Online Grand Theater. This is an opportunity to gather together over 30 best-of-the-best films, including “Ripped Pantyhose,” winner of the Grand Prix and George Lucas Award at the SSFF & ASIA 2025 held in June, as well as films nominated for Best Short Film in the live action, animation, and non-fiction categories at next year’s Academy Awards. This time, a one-day pass system will be used, allowing for non-stop screenings of up to 12 films per day within the venue. The lineup also includes a curated selection of films on themes such as art, AI, shocking events, and LGBTQ.
