JBL’s flagship speaker lineage began with the D30085 Hartsfield and D44000 Paragon in the 1950s, and continued with the Project D44000 in the 1980s. JBL has continued to evolve, from the EVEREST DD55000 and Project K2 S9500 to the K2 S9800 and EVEREST DD67000 since the 2000s, always striving to reach the pinnacle of audio reproduction. These models not only gave birth to innovative acoustic technologies but also had a profound influence on other JBL speakers. Continuing this tradition, in 2025, the brand’s 80th anniversary, the new JBL Summit series of project models will be born, bringing together JBL’s engineering and passion for sound. Following the first model, “Summit Ama,” which was released in September, “Summit Makalu” and “Summit Pumori” will be the second models to be introduced in Japan. “Summit Makalu” is named after Makalu, a solitary peak towering in the eastern Himalayas. Designed as JBL’s flagship model with a 300mm woofer, it features a three-way configuration with a D2 compression driver HDI™ horn, a newly developed 200mm mid-bass, and an HC4 cone woofer. The deep low frequencies and piercing high frequencies envelop your entire body, vividly reproducing every detail of your music. Meanwhile, the “Summit Pumori” is a sister model named after the beautiful peak “Pumori,” also known as the “daughter of Mount Everest.” Equipped with a 250mm woofer, this speaker employs a three-way configuration featuring a D2 compression driver HDI™ horn, and a 200mm mid-bass, inheriting the same design from the higher-end model. The refined mid- and high-range frequencies blend beautifully with deep bass, creating a rich, spatially defined sound. Both models feature a proprietary MultiCap™ crossover network that delivers a pure, clear audio signal to each unit. The gently curved cabinet features a rigid front baffle integrated with carbon fiber and meticulous bracing to eliminate unwanted resonances, a high-gloss ebony natural wood veneer finish with Summit Gold accents, and JBL custom IsoAcoustics™ isolation feet.
