In the three and a half years since the show began, there were times when I had to make some big life decisions. At those times, the books I read with Shu and the words he shared with me through those books helped me update my thinking, and I feel like I’ve been able to make better choices than I could have made before. I’m really glad I came across this program.” She also expressed her joy at being able to record in front of listeners, and the recording began in a warm atmosphere. This time, the talk will focus on keywords from “Words to Illuminate the Future,” which was also introduced in the program’s “Key to Tomorrow” segment. After exchanging their thoughts on “highland society,” which was first covered in the segment, the two speakers moved on to the topic of “servant leadership,” which is included in Chapter 3, “The Leader’s Mindset.”

I believe that giving younger employees bigger tasks and responsibilities will allow them to demonstrate their abilities. To achieve this, our generation needs to proactively give them opportunities, telling them to “give it their all.” Next, Nagahama poses a question. Nagahama: Is there anything common among people who make you think, “I might fail, but I’ll leave it to this person”? Yamaguchi: Yes. The most important criterion is “passion.” Venture companies, in particular, inevitably face difficult situations, so I don’t think they can overcome those challenges unless they have the passion to “take on bigger
challenges.” Yamaguchi also says that there are certain
characteristics of people who succeed. Yamaguchi says that it’s not a high IQ or natural intelligence, but “being someone who can ask others for favors.” It was striking to see the gasps of admiration that erupted from the audience when he said this. In the second half of the live recording, Nagahama spoke about the changes she has experienced in self-awareness, which is the process of recognizing oneself, from Chapter 6, “Putting Your Mind in Order.”

To begin with, I couldn’t explain what I was struggling with, and I didn’t fully understand it. Learning about self-awareness on the program inspired me to organize my thoughts, think logically about what I could do to change, and write them down in a notebook. I think I’ve gradually started to change on the inside. Looking back at the topics covered on the show so far from a current perspective, we were able to get a glimpse of the growth and changes that have occurred over the past three and a half years. While other in-depth discussions branched out from the theme, the program was drawing to a close. The final topic turned to “What would you like to do through the program in the future?” Yamaguchi said, “Right now, the world as a whole is tense, so I’d like to talk about ways to create a more open society.” Nagahama responded, “My dream of publishing the program as a book and recording it publicly has come true, but I’d like to get out of the J-WAVE studio and record outdoors again next time.” With this, the event came to a close, announcing a new goal.
