On the day, an impromptu cypher-style performance fused genre-bending street culture, with performers selected from a public audition and guest artists putting on a passionate performance. Hip-hop group Umeda Cipher’s powerful live performance of their theme track “GOLDEN” united the venue, eliciting cheers from the audience. In addition, the event offered a new musical experience that combined sound and video through the immersive sound effects of Sony’s ULT TOWER 9 speakers, which combine powerful bass with high-quality sound, and the release of a digest movie created by professional video production. Sometimes I get heckled, and people from overseas compliment me even when they don’t speak my language. We use words in rap, but I believe anything is fine when it comes to expression. The heat and vibes at this Boiling PARKING were so intense, it was like they were saying, “I don’t care, just let me express myself!” I thought the way they rose was amazing. The underground parking lot, with almost no air conditioning, created a space where all kinds of excitement mixed together. If I do it again, I’d like to hone my skills even more and challenge everyone again!

At this year’s Boiling PARKING, I was deeply moved by the love that ciphers embodies, how they equally embrace all performances, regardless of age, gender, language, non-language, or career history, and transform them into a single excitement and frenzy. Even if it won’t happen anytime soon, I’ll keep honing my skills every day, looking forward to another night of Boiling PARKING! My utmost love to the place and people who made that night possible! I hope we can cipher together again.

Boiling PARKING was filled with the same kind of impulse I felt when I would search for open mic events and spend night after night looking for a chance to take the mic, and with performers from different genres performing all at once, I think it created a unique and exciting atmosphere. Even during filming, I was exposed to the excitement of the venue, and I felt my own excitement rising with my whole body. More than anything, I feel a great sense of fulfillment and joy in being able to complete this challenge of “improvisational video production” with the best team to the very end. I felt the performance unfolding in this wonderful space and incorporated each moment into my creativity. It was like I was jumping into an extraordinary world, and it was an experience that really fired up both my mind and my body. I’m truly grateful to my teammates who ran through this with me and to everyone who helped create this place. Profile Umeda Cipher This group grew out of participants in a cipher (an impromptu rap session in a circle) held on the footbridge above Osaka’s Umeda Station. Many members have achieved outstanding results in rap battles, and have produced many nationally renowned rappers, including R-Shitei. There is no hierarchical relationship, and there has never been any talk of forming a group, let alone a leader. It is characterized by being a collection of individuals, not a group. Umeda Cipher embodies the free-spirited relationships born from the connections between rappers. Some members are also filmmakers, designers, and track makers, and their activities span a wide range.
