Street Experiment Event 12 – Despite everything, I’ve managed to survive. ~ Held
Yukai Co., Ltd. Press release: October 17, 2025 To Members of the Press Street Experiment Event 12 – Despite everything, I’ve managed to survive. ~ Held November 3rd (Monday/Holiday) 11:00-19:30 By laying 300 tatami mats across the road, a “festival like no other” will begin in Kanda! Step gently onto the 300-tatami mat area laid out on the street, and you’ll find yourself in an open “inner” space in the middle of the city. The view from there opens up into a world of sensations you’ve never experienced before, and the boundary between inside and outside gradually fades into obscurity. The sky visible through the gaps between the buildings gently illuminates the entire space like a large window. This “New Festival” offers a variety of experiences centered around the three themes of “Connection,” “Equality,” and “Sharing.” The intersection of art, welfare, and the community leads to encounters with unknown worlds and people. We will open up such opportunities for experiencing and enjoying the gaps in everyday life here in Kanda.

The main venue is the Kanda Port Building (3-9 Kanda Nishikicho, Chiyoda-ku), a cultural complex with a sauna, and the road space surrounding the building, which is covered with 300 tatami mats. This time, the area has been expanded to include the area around Terrace Square (3-22 Kanda Nishikicho, Chiyoda-ku), where a variety of “mobile” events will be gathered, including food trucks selected through public submissions, a mobile aquarium, a blacksmith shop, a play area, and more. We position this place as a place of creativity and experimentation, exploring how the ideas and relationships that are born here can be utilized in society. We call this place “Atarashii Ennichi” (New Festival). At this festival, people naturally express their thoughts and opinions, saying things like, “I never knew there was a way to do this” or “This feels a little easier now.” Here, we find ideas that soften our perspectives and ways of thinking. During the festival, a total of 300 tatami mats are laid out on the streets and inside the buildings that make up the festival venue. Normally, tatami spaces create a sense of separation between inside and outside, but if you take off your shoes and step onto the tatami mats on the street, you might perceive this boundary in a different light. From the tatami mats on the street, you can see the sky peeking through the gaps between buildings and the sight of people having fun. The charm of this festival lies in the world you’ve never encountered before, the comfort of experiencing something new, and the very way you encounter it. I hope it gradually builds empathy and makes you feel at home here.
