Led by Rainer Küchl, who led the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra for 45 years as its renowned concertmaster, the nine-piece ensemble includes two violins, a viola, a cello, a double bass, a flute, a horn, and two clarinets—the orchestra’s accomplished core members. Their
performances of waltzes and polkas by the Strauss family, Zieler, and Lanner, steeped in Viennese sentiment, evoke a strong sense of their love and pride for Vienna, filling listeners with an unparalleled sense of happiness. Since 1999, the Vienna Ring Ensemble has performed at the Brahmssaal every year as part of the Vienna Philharmonic’s annual end-of-year concert series, drawing rave reviews from local Viennese fans. In the summer of 2002, they were invited to the Lucerne Festival. The ensemble first visited Japan in 1991, and has continued to visit almost every year since 1993. After performing at the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert in Vienna, they immediately flew to Japan to perform the New Year’s Concert, bringing the authentic sound and atmosphere of the country to Japanese fans. In 1998, they were selected to perform at the Nagano Olympic Culture and Arts Festival, and gave two concerts there. Furthermore, they have become a familiar presence in Japan through numerous television appearances and CDs. 2026 will mark their 34th tour of Japan.
