much-anticipated final episode just around the corner, we asked the four studio MCs, Anne Mika, Wakatsuki Chinatsu, Fujimori Shingo, and Taira Yuna, about their thoughts after recording the final episode. ■Ann Mika

Not only the couples who ended up together, but everyone else was amazing. They were a memorable group. Thank you. I married for love and had no experience in dating, so this program really made me realize that love and marriage are not the same thing. Each person was trying to overcome their own past and wounds, and we had no idea what choices they would make. But it was clear to me that everyone was seriously participating in the event to get married, and I thought, “This is the reality of matchmaking.” I was deeply moved by the way everyone thought seriously about their choices and lived responsibly. Those who weren’t chosen also have their own stories, and I’m sure they’ll become stronger through this experience and go on to have wonderful marriages. I really want to say “thank you” to everyone from the bottom of my heart. I was really surprised by how emotionally charged the second episode was. Even I, who am quite talkative, am at a loss for words (laughs). Thank you very much. To be continued. ■Chinatsu Wakatsuki

I was most surprised by Anne Mika’s voice as she stood up (laughs). But Anne Mika isn’t usually the type to get so surprised or stand up. Even when we were watching the video together, it was the first time I’d seen her so happy and crying like that. Anne Mika was crying her eyes out… If she hadn’t cried so much, I think everyone else would have cried more, but she was crying so hard that it was actually a little intimidating (laughs). But it was truly the first time I’d seen Anne Mika express her emotions like that, and just that seemed to convey that it was the final episode. It was really good. I personally love romance stories, and this time the theme was “facing marriage,” and it really felt like everyone was seriously taking on the challenge, putting their lives on the line. Each person was giving it their all in the limited time of just two weeks, and I felt like it was a truly wonderful experience. I really think we’ve gathered such wonderful people. ■Shingo Fujimori Image

Every week, I watched it again with my family. I was careful not to spoil anything for my wife, and tried to have fresh reactions (laughs). This show is best watched twice. Watching it once in the studio and then again at home, I discover new things, like, “Oh, so that’s the emotional turmoil here,” or “That expression is so lovely.” Even watching the final episode with that in mind, I still had no idea what was going to happen. It was so interesting. The ending was truly shocking. The final episode was filled with a mixture of emotions, including joy and anger. ■Yuna Hira

When I actually watched it, it was completely different from what I imagined, and I was surprised by many developments that made me go, “Huh? That way!?” I was happy, but also sad that it was the final episode. But I really enjoyed the time I spent in the studio talking about all sorts of things with Fujimori-san, Anne Mika-san, and Wakatsuki-san. Also, my perspective on marriage has changed a little through watching the show. I originally thought that “dating” meant “someone I could marry,” but when married people told me, “Love and marriage are two different things,” it didn’t really resonate with me. But after watching this program and seeing women torn between “the person they love” and “the person they’ll marry,” it all made sense to me. I realized, “Oh, I see, that’s one way of thinking about it,” and I was able to accept my own way of thinking. Everyone who participated in the show was not just “looking to get married,” but was also connected through friendship and personal bonds, which was truly wonderful. Even as a viewer, I think it’s a truly wonderful show. I enjoyed it and learned a lot. The final episode is definitely one you should watch. ■ABEMA’s New Program “Girl or Lady Season 2” Overview
