(Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Ryuho Masamine, hereafter referred to as “TBS”) and U-NEXT, Inc. (Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Tsutsumi Tenshin, hereafter referred to as “U-NEXT”). The manga is by Eiji Hashimoto, known for his powerful touch and impressive artistic ability, and the original story is by Shinya Umemura, also known for “Record of Ragnarok.” Set in Kyoto during the late Edo period, the popular comic “Chirururan: Shinsengumi Requiem” depicts the fierce yet passionate lives of the Shinsengumi, the strongest samurai group, with flashy action and a bold interpretation based on historical facts. This is the first live-action adaptation of the original. It was recently announced that Yuki Yamada will play the lead character, Toshizo Hijikata. This work tells the story of how Hijikata Toshizo met the talented Kondo Isami and, together with his comrades, such as Okita Souji and Saito Hajime, created the Shinsengumi, a group that would go down in history. This “Japanese sword action entertainment” depicts the lives of these men, who questioned the meaning of their lives during a time of great change and lived short but vivid lives with a burning passion so strong that they risked their lives for it. Their story, where friendship, betrayal, and conviction intersect, is intertwined with modern, elegant, and captivating characters and some of the fastest sword fighting in history. We are pleased to announce additional cast members who will play the patriots who lived alongside Hijikata, including Isami Kondo, and will add color to the film. A diverse cast of actors, including Suzuki Nobuyuki, Nakamura Ao, and Hosoda Kaito, plays the nine passionate patriots who ran through the end of the Edo period, bound together by a family-like bond while each harboring their own ideals and ambitions!

kind-hearted man known as the conscience of “Shieikan” but with a complicated background, will be played by Yosuke Sugino, who has starred in many films and dramas with his natural charm and unique sensibility, and has co-starred with Yamada on many occasions in this film’s lead role. Shuntaro Yanagi shines with his unique presence and aura in the role of Harada Sanosuke, the top spear user at “Shieikan” and a taciturn glutton. The role of the youngest mood maker, Toudou Heisuke, is played by Miyazaki Akito, a talented actor with
outstanding physical abilities and passionate acting. The role of Inoue Genzaburou, the longest-serving and taciturn talent of Shieikan, is played by the unique actor Iwanaga Hihio, who has appeared in many popular productions in recent years. Just like the members of “Shieikan,” this cast brings together a group of young, talented actors who possess both strong personalities and talent. Lead actor Yamada emphatically stated, “This was only possible because of this cast!” Anticipation is building to see how they will portray the new-age Shinsengumi. While paying respect to the characters of the original work, the show also features character visuals that highlight the unique personalities of the characters, along with character videos that bring each character’s character to life even more vividly.
