One of his earliest landscapes is “View of Delft,” which Proust, a leading 20th century novelist, described as the most beautiful painting in the world.

It’s a masterpiece that holds special meaning for the museum. The iconic blue color created by the use of lapis lazuli, which later came to be known as Vermeer blue, is captivating.

Inspired by the Schiedam Gate clock tower, which indicates 7:10 in “View of Delft,” the classical dial features Roman numeral indexes and a reproduction of the Vermeer blue of “Girl with a Pearl Earring” on the inner circle and the back of the strap. The gold-tone indexes and hands echo the radiant color of the girl’s clothing, and the 6 o’clock position is decorated with a pearl-like ornament, showcasing attention to detail. The back of the watch is engraved with Vermeer’s signature “Meer,” hidden in the upper left corner of “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” as well as a unique serial number.
