Golf is a culture! A photo exhibition by Kanemichi Yamada will be held at one of Japan’s most famous golf courses, designed by C. H. Allison and Seiichi Inoue, capturing the essence of golf as it is and the naturalistic landscape of Japanese culture.

C. H. Allison (1882-1952) Born in Preston, Lancashire, England. He played golf and cricket at Oxford University. He won the England Amateur Championship twice. In 2003, he toured the United States for an inter-university tournament, winning all six matches. In 2007, he set a record of 340 yards in a driving contest at Dollymount Golf Club. In 1928, he opened a course design office in London with Harry Colt. In 1930, he came to Japan at the request of Tokyo Golf Club. In December of the same year, he had a fateful encounter with Seiichi Inoue in Kawana, ushering in the dawn of course design in the world of Japanese golf. Seiichi Inoue (1908-1981) Born as the eldest son of a
prestigious ophthalmologist in Akasaka, Tokyo. In 1930, while receiving treatment for an illness in Kawana, he met C. H. Allison. The following year, he joined Kasumigaseki Country Club and
participated in the construction of the West Course. He then designed Nasu Golf Course first, and went on to design 38 of Japan’s most famous courses, including Oarai, Takanodai, and Nikko. In 1962, he traveled to inspect prestigious courses in Europe and the United States, and in 1971 he inspected golf courses in Hawaii. In 1981, he passed away at the age of 73 at Atami Onsen Hospital while working on the Ohara Onjuku Golf Course.

Member of the Japan Professional Photographers Society and the Japan Society for the Study of Photographic Art. Born in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture. Studied under Hitoshi Makino at Bunka Kobo and is the representative of the photography collective PIPS Inc. In recent years, he has positioned golf courses as a “place of study” as part of his life’s work, and has begun photographing the courses in search of cultural landscapes. He has published the photo collections “Earth Design” (special deluxe edition), “New Earth Design” and “Someday Here, Inoue Seiichi’s Golf Course” to great acclaim. He writes golf columns such as “Wind Dances” in the Mainichi Shimbun and “Wind, Sky, Earth” in Sankei Sports, and is currently active as a writer and lecturer. He was awarded the Golf Digest Award 2006 in recognition of his achievements in course photography. [Major solo exhibitions] Ginza Mikimoto Hall, Shinjuku Kinokuniya Gallery, Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, Shiseido Ginza Building, etc. The giclee used in this work, also known as digital lithography, is a printing technique that utilizes the latest computer technology. The image of the original artwork is converted into a digital file, and ink is sprayed directly onto printing paper or other media without the use of a screen. Giclee is French for “ink spray.” Giclée prints, made with pigment-based inks (lightfast for
approximately 200 years), are high-quality photographic prints with beautiful, vibrant colors and vivid expression. Each print undergoes strict quality control, and only 30 copies are available, each signed by the artist. This time, they are produced in 15 different air acrylic framing options.
