Pola Museum of Art Press release: October 22, 2025 To Members of the Press Saturday, November 22nd is “Van Gogh Impact Day”! ~ Holding lectures and events, opening hours extended until 8:00 PM ~ The Pola Museum of Art is hosting its first Vincent van Gogh-themed exhibition since its opening, “Van Gogh Impact: Generative Passion,” which has been met with overwhelming acclaim. With just one week until the exhibition’s closing, on Saturday, November 22nd, we will be holding “Van Gogh Impact Day,” featuring a lecture by Yasumasa Morimura and a special screening of Fiona Tan’s video work, “Ascent.” Opening hours will be extended until 8:00 PM on that day (last entry at 7:30 PM). You can enjoy the exhibition at a more leisurely pace than usual. You can also enjoy the lush forest illuminations and dinner at the restaurant, unique to a national park. Enjoy the long autumn nights at the Hakone Pola Museum of Art.

■Lecture by Yasumasa Morimura: “What I Learned from Becoming Van Gogh” Morimura Yasumasa is known for his self-portraits in which he dresses up as historical figures and works of art. His first self-portrait, in 1985, was of Van Gogh with a bandage around his ear. Approximately 30 years later, he returned to Van Gogh’s presence and published “The Art History of Self-Portraits (Visiting Van Gogh’s Room)” in 2016. He is an indispensable artist when considering the history of Van Gogh’s reception in Japan. On the day, we will welcome Yasumasa Morimura to Hakone to give a lecture. The venue will be remodeled for the one-night-only screening. After the screening, we will welcome Naofumi Osaka of Wako Works of Art, who was involved in the production of Ascent, to speak with the curator in charge of the project.
