Chesu (Shun Hasegawa and Hiroki Wakamatsu), comedians living in Akita Prefecture, will be holding a comedy live show, “Chesu THE Akita Banzai,” performing Akita Banzai songs at the Former Matsukura Family Residence (Akita City) on Sunday, November 9, 2025. Akita Manzai is a traditional performing art performed by a pair of performers with a history spanning over 300 years. It is a celebratory performance passed down in Akita, where performers visit homes in the New Year to pray for longevity and safety for the family. Performed by a tayu and a saizō, the tayu wear a hitatare (a traditional Japanese robe) with a pine, bamboo, plum, and crane/turtle design, a boat-shaped eboshi hat, and hold a fan, while the saizō wears a black crested kimono (traditional Japanese kimono) with a hood and holds a drum. The performance is basically divided into two parts: a ceremonial manzai and a storytelling manzai. Although the town-wide culture has now died out, a small number of people continue to perform it at various events. Chess is also a member of the Akita Manzai Heritage
Association, and is dedicated to preserving this Akita
