It was a wonderful moment where we could really get a feel for his personality. The Hooby Dinner featured a menu recreating the school lunch featured in the film. Ichihara-san, Producer Iwabuchi, and all the guests joined hands in a “Itadakimasu” (thank you for the meal) and thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

The luncheon, held at a different venue, featured a special curry recreated by Ide Tsuyoshi of Sapporo Rakkyo, based on the curry featured in the series.

The post-screening dinner featured an inspired dinner featuring the seasonal bounty of the land and life, arranged in the style of “Maruyama Dan,” a popular restaurant located in Maruyama, Sapporo. Doi and Director Nakae also participated, enjoying the meal and conversation with the guests.

It features udon noodles made with 100% Hokkaido wheat, butter, and toppings, all sourced from Hokkaido, and Mikawa soy sauce from Aichi Prefecture, where the film is set.

The final screening was “TETSU, TXISPA, HOSHI.”, a documentary film about Michelin-starred chef Tetsuro Maeda in Spain, which was screened in the Culinary category at the 73rd San Sebastian International Film Festival and had its Japan premiere this time. The guest speakers were Chef Koji Fukaya (organizer of the World Culinary Conference in HAKODATE) (Hakodate/Restaurant La Concha y Basque), Chef Mitsuo Hazama (TERAKOYA), Mr. Shuzo Nagumo (Tokyo, “Spirits & Sharing”), and Chef Ryosuke Takao (Sapporo, “TAKAO”). Director Fukada Koji and author of “Workstyle Reform in Japanese Films,” lawyer Shinomiya Takashi, who has produced and produced multiple films and serves as CEO of companies such as Arashi Co., Ltd., general manager Tsuboi Atsushi of Nagoya Cinema Skhole, who continues to invigorate the film industry by launching many projects, and executive committee chair Ito Ayumi discussed the future of Japanese films and the role and challenges of regional film festivals. This year’s event was produced by poroco, a gourmet information magazine for actively enjoying the city of Sapporo. The event was significantly expanded from last year, with 50 participating restaurants. It took place over 10 days, from October 3rd to 12th, prior to the film festival.
