Using valuable materials and unreleased footage, they will explain life under American rule in postwar Okinawa, a subject that has rarely been portrayed in film to date, and the turbulent 27-year “American era” leading up to Okinawa’s return to Japan. This event at Ashikaga University High School is being held as a “preliminary Okinawan history study” for students who will be visiting Okinawa on a school trip. ・Program Content Mr. Kyan will share his experiences of life under American colonial rule after the war, his interactions with American soldiers at the time, and the hardships he endured before Okinawa was returned to Japan. He will also discuss what it means for a country to be ruled by another country, and the various issues that arose during that rule. This will provide an opportunity to reflect on “true peace” and the importance of “looking forward and continuing to move forward without giving up, even in the most difficult of circumstances,” which is also reflected in the film’s plot.
