I will be holding a solo exhibition in Ise, where I spent a special time during my stay as part of a creators’ workcation in 2020. For me, who is based in Tokyo and Kanagawa, traveling to Ise to hold a solo exhibition is a very special experience. I am especially grateful to the Ise City Hall and the Binnichikan for their generous support in making this exhibition possible, which I have been working on with great passion. As many of you may already know, the Binnichikan, the venue for this solo exhibition, will be temporarily closing for renovations at the end of fiscal year 2025. As I decided to hold this solo exhibition at this time, I reflected on the time from when the Binjitsukan first opened in the Meiji era to the present day, and came up with the title “Box of Memories.” I decided to create an exhibition in which the various presences and memories floating around the Binjitsukan take on the shape of flowers, visible to those of us living in the present. The memories and presences of the guests, travelers, people who work there, people living there today, the sea beyond the garden, and the plants—all these have piled up like fallen leaves to form the Binjitsukan of today. I believe this overlaps with our own lives. I would be truly delighted if this place, beloved by so many, like the Binnichikan, could provide an opportunity for you to touch upon someone’s memories and quietly open the box of your own. I hope this exhibition will be enjoyed not only by those living in Ise, but also by tourists visiting the area. Please feel free to come and enjoy a trip down memory lane, as many times as you like. (9) What is the Ise City Creators’ Workation Promotion Project? Ise City publicly solicited and invited approximately 100 professional creators in the cultural and artistic fields residing in Japan (outside Ise City), who stayed at accommodation facilities within the city and engaged in their creative activities.
