classes Ceramic artist and haiku poet Tokuro Kogure is coming to Matsumoto I-City! Kogure Tokuro, the judge of the 2024 NHK Haiku Awards, will be visiting Matsumoto iCity this fall. At the lecture, Tokuraro, who openly states that “pottery and haiku are about excitement,” will talk about the secrets of composing haiku that capture the seasons. Tokuro says that since he began writing haiku, he has become aware of himself as a part of nature. How does Matsumoto’s natural beauty appear to you? And what is your desire to convey the culture of haiku to young people? We’d like you to speak in your own words. In the second half, we will have a fun haiku gathering. Depending on the theme, have fun composing haiku using what you heard in the lecture as inspiration. If you’re worried about being able to write a haiku on the day, feel free to bring your own! It’s sure to be an exciting time! Those who submit outstanding works selected by the instructors will receive a gift of pottery made by the instructors, who are also ceramic artists. Why not spend a special day at Matsumoto I-City 21 during the N CalFes period? ■Instructor Profile Tokuraro Kogure Ceramic artist and haiku poet. Born in Ikaho, Gunma Prefecture in 1961.
