On Thursday, October 23rd, the first day of the “HOP⤴” event, at 5:30 PM, a lighting ceremony was held on the special stage in front of the wave pool, welcoming distinguished guests and other distinguished guests.

“Jewel Illumination” is an illumination using LEDs inspired by jewel tones, developed by Ishii Mikiko Design Office. Following last year’s theme, this year’s theme is “LIGHT is LOVE,” expressing love for people, nature, and the Earth. Yomiuriland celebrated its 60th anniversary last year, and this year marks the first step toward further growth. The sub-theme is “LIGHT HOP⤴,” expressing fun and splendor through light. On the day of the lighting ceremony, lighting designer Mikiko Ishii, who produced the illuminations, took the stage to speak about the theme of “LIGHT HOP⤴.” Special guests Ami Touma and Jun Saito, stars of the film “Strawberry Moon,” which was released on Friday, October 17th, also appeared on stage. They introduced the highlights of the film and their roles, as well as engaged in exclusive conversation about the illuminations. In addition, ORANGE RANGE, who performed the film’s theme song, “Towano Hikari,” appeared on stage and performed the song against the fantastical backdrop of Jewel Illumination. The approximately 800 guests who gathered at the venue and the speakers counted down together, and as the illuminations were lit up, a spectacular 60m wide, 15m high fountain rose into the air, filling the venue with cheers and applause. I hope that people will spend time with friends, lovers, and family in a fun and cheerful manner. When you look at the whole thing from the entrance, you’ll see orange used in various places as an accent color, which I think gives off a warm and passionate feeling. The illuminations will be on display for 149 days, from today until April 5th next year. In between, we’ll also have Christmas, New Year’s, and cherry blossom season. The two fulfill their dream of going to see the full moon known as the “Strawberry Moon,” which is said to bind you together forever if you watch it with your loved one, but Moe disappears that day. 13 years later, the reason for Moe’s sudden disappearance is revealed. While this is a heart-wrenching love story about Moe and Hinata, who fall in love with all their might in the limited time they have, it also elevates the story into a human drama that will move people of all ages, as it depicts the struggles and kindness of Moe’s parents and friends as they watch over her as she lives her life in her own way.
