Tales of Treasures – Tracing the History of Beauty through the Art of Osaka City,” from Saturday, April 25, 2026 to Sunday, June 21, 2026. Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts, which opened in 1936, will celebrate its 90th anniversary on May 1, 2026. This exhibition traces the stories of the treasures associated with the museum. As the third-oldest public art museum in Japan, our museum has survived through the Showa and Heisei eras, and now, in the Reiwa era, after undergoing extensive renovations, it remains firmly rooted in Osaka. History is preserved and serves as the foundation for the future. Sometimes, these stories evolve into literary narratives and are passed down in a different form. Meanwhile, art not only often depicts these narratives, but is also a medium for visually conveying the spirit of the times and people. Art reflects multiple narratives. The history of a museum is eloquently told through the artworks that form its foundation. This exhibition will showcase a number of treasures from the museum’s collection and on loan, and will tell the stories that have been woven around the museum, the stories entrusted to art, and the stories of the creation of art and its prospects for the future. Details of this exhibition are scheduled to be announced around December 2025. An overview is as follows. Exhibition Structure Prologue: The Beginning Telling the Story with Masterpieces Episode 1: Narrative Art – A Shown Story Episode 2: Orders x Transmissions – Behind the Scenes of Art’s Creation I Episode 3: Materials x Techniques – Behind the Scenes of Art’s Creation II Epilogue: Research x Restoration – A Story Connecting to the Future Main Exhibited Works
