On the NHK Network (hosted by Shinichi Kotemori), we are presenting a program for business people in their 40s and 50s called “The Source of Judgment: Brain Care for Top Performance.” Since the program began in July of this year, we have welcomed a variety of guests, including storyteller Hakuzan Kanda, ski jumper Noriaki Kasai, and former NHK announcer Junichi Tosaka, to share tips for business people to stay active on the front lines.

Our first guest for November is Hiroshi Yamamoto, an archer and professor at Nippon Sport Science University. While teaching at Nippon Sport Science University, this superhuman is also aiming to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He asserts that “concentration = interest.” While shooting 72 arrows per match is a grueling sport, he focuses his mind entirely on the image of archery in order to thoroughly refine the reproducibility of “shooting an arrow and hitting the target.” While he can’t beat younger archers physically, he confidently stated that by drawing on his experience and focusing, he will never give up on victory. Yamamoto has a habit of asking himself, “Why? Is there a better way?” about everything, and he uses his brain to its full potential. That’s why, just like charging your cell phone, it’s important to make sure you get plenty of rest so your brain is fully charged in the morning, he told us. Our second guest for November is astronaut Soichi Noguchi. He has completed three space flights and four extravehicular activities, and is a Guinness World Record-certified superhuman. It’s said that the moment of launch is the moment when your brain is most fully engaged during a space flight. As the spacecraft accelerates at Mach speeds and is surrounded by intense vibrations and thunderous noise, it’s essential to accurately grasp the situation on the spacecraft, which changes every second. At the same time, it’s important to calmly review in your mind the steps to take in case of an unexpected accident. Noguchi describes his “brain as my own computer,” and this recording allows viewers to virtually experience what goes on inside his head and through his eyes.
