This exhibition is a spin-off exhibition held in advance of the “Hometown” exhibition, scheduled to be held in winter 2026. The exhibition will focus on the “places” that Jimmy Onishi has encountered throughout his creative endeavors around the world, showcasing works born from those places. It will also feature new works created specifically for Kyoto, which he regards as his “second hometown,” on display for the first time. Painter Jimmy Onishi’s creative journey woven by “places” Jimmy Onishi began painting seriously in 1992 after being inspired by a television program. After hearing the words of artist Taro Okamoto, “Don’t worry about the square frame, just let it spill out of the canvas,” I decided to seriously pursue a career as a painter. After quitting his job as a comedian, his first choice was to move to Spain. After dramatically changing his creative style there, he continued to create a diverse range of works while traveling around the world, visiting places like Malta, Rome, Antarctica, Paris, Okinawa, Toyama, Nihonbashi (Osaka), and Nagasaki. From 2022 to 2023, he toured 10 cities across Japan for his solo exhibition “POP OUT,” commemorating 30 years as an artist, and continued to paint in each location. “When I paint, I imagine that I’ve been living in that place forever.” — Jimmy Onishi This exhibition features 12 of Jimmy Onishi’s
representative works. See the “stories of color and place” of Jimmy Onishi, whose work continues to evolve after 33 years of artistic practice. During the event, Ace Hotel Kyoto’s restaurant “KŌSA” on the third floor will be offering a special afternoon tea inspired by Jimmy Onishi’s colorful works, “Colorful Inspiration,” for a limited time only (Saturday, November 1, 2025 – Monday, January 12, 2026). Using ingredients that are in season from autumn to winter, the tea is presented in a presentation reminiscent of the vibrant colors of Jimmy Onishi’s works. Experience a world that seems to have jumped straight off the canvas, with your taste buds at the same time. ■Event overview Exhibition Title: Jimmy Onishi Exhibition “Another Hometown” Dates: Saturday, November 1, 2025 – Saturday, January 31, 2026 Venue: Ace Hotel Kyoto, 1st Floor Lobby Gallery (245-2 Kurumaya-cho, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto) (Inside ShinPuhkan) Admission: Free Exhibition contents: Works depicting Malta, Rome, Antarctica, Paris, Okinawa, Toyama, Nihonbashi (Japan), and Nagasaki Special Event: Afternoon Tea “Color Inspiration” (Venue: Ace Hotel Kyoto, 3rd floor, “KŌSA”)

https://www.tablecheck.com/shops/kosa-acehotelkyoto/reserve Each dish is a cross between the cultures and seasons of various regions, including Malta’s local “Futtira” sandwich, red wine-braised tartlets reflecting the passion of Seville, Spain, Rome’s specialty soupli, and onion gratin soup reminiscent of winter in Paris. We also added flavors that evoke Japan’s “other hometowns,” such as Okinawa’s shirishiri salad and Nihonbashi’s marinated turnip. • Malta | Futilla (Maltese Sandwich) – Prosciutto, Roasted Tuna, Red Onion, and Capers This specialty sandwich from Malta was apparently also served at the Malta Pavilion at the Osaka Expo. A sandwich featuring slowly grilled tuna sandwiched between crispy, chewy baguette bread and the perfect amount of salty prosciutto. • Flamenco | Seville-style Braised Pork and Red Wine Tartelette This tartlet is inspired by the passionate red of flamenco, a winter specialty from the Seville region of Spain, home of flamenco, and features braised pork cheeks with beets. • Rome | Roman-Style Rice Croquettes These cute, round rice croquettes have mozzarella cheese hidden inside and can be found in unpretentious restaurants in Rome. • Paris | Onion Gratin Soup A winter staple at French bistros. The soup is made by slowly caramelizing onions, then using a homemade, plant-based vegan stock instead of animal-based stock to create a light finish. KŌSA’s signature focaccia is topped with Gruyère cheese and baked in the oven for a warming meal. • Okinawa | Shirishiri Vegetable and Egg Salad In Okinawa, the word for grating is “shirishiri.” This time, we’ve made a salad out of “ninjin shirishiri,” a local dish made with stir-fried eggs and carrots. • Nihonbashi | Turnip Pickle-Style Marinade Turnip, a winter favorite, is made into a KŌSA-style pickle using the umami flavor of kelp and wine vinegar. A colorful array of sweets, seemingly jumping out of Jimmy Onishi’s canvas, including blueberry and blackcurrant eclairs, Satsuma mandarin tart, pistachio macarons, and tonka bean pudding, is on display. The vibrant colors and exotic aromas blend together to create a lingering aftertaste that makes you feel like you’ve been transported on a journey. • Blueberry and Cassis Eclair This eclair is made with custard cream made with sour cream, topped with cassis and blueberry jam, for a refreshing cheesecake flavor. • Coffee and Mascarpone Roll Cake A slightly crispy cocoa dough is soaked in plenty of coffee syrup and rolled up with rich mascarpone and coffee cream. • Satsuma Mandarin Tart Orange-flavored almond dough is layered with mandarin marmalade jam and fresh Satsuma mandarins, creating a refreshing fruity flavor. • Pistachio Macaroons and Griotte Cherry Compote The mellow richness of pistachios is combined with the tartness of griotte cherry compote with a hint of kirsch to create a rich harmony. • Tonka Bean Pudding and Silk Sweet Mont Blanc This pudding, filled with the soft aroma of tonka beans and the refined sweetness of wasanbon sugar, is topped with the texture of crumble. A gorgeous glass dessert, topped with a Silk Sweet Mont Blanc. • White Chocolate and Mixed Berry Mousse A smooth white chocolate mousse centered around rose-scented raspberries. Finished with a vibrant red, sweet and tart strawberry-flavored chocolate. The “Roasted Sweet Potato and Passion Fruit Lemonade” is based on yellow, which Jimmy describes as “the color that inspired his creativity.” Its gentle sweetness and tartness add a touch of light to a winter afternoon. The “Tiger Nut Horchata,” an adaptation of a traditional drink from Valencia, Spain, is inspired by the artist’s love of “pure white.” It’s a nostalgic drink that leaves a gentle aftertaste. • Roasted Sweet Potato and Passion Fruit Lemonade Among Jimmy Onishi’s colorful paintings, yellow is the color that catches the eye. For Jimmy Onishi, yellow is “an important base color that I apply first and over the entire piece.” The gentle sweetness of roasted sweet potatoes, evoking the colder season, and the tartness of passion fruit, reminiscent of its vibrant colors, are combined to create a smooth, creamy lemonade. • Tiger Nut Horchata Horchata is a drink found throughout
Spanish-speaking countries. This recipe, made with tiger nuts, a known superfood, is a mid-afternoon favorite for residents of the Valencia region of Spain. It features a milky sweetness reminiscent of soy milk, a subtle earthy aroma, and a refreshing taste that evokes nostalgia. Horchata, beloved by people at cafes and train station stalls throughout the city, is combined with the paintings of Jimmy Onishi, beloved by people all over the world. This design is inspired by Jimmy Onishi’s favorite color, pure white. ■JIMMY ONISHI|JIMMY ONISHI He became famous for his shocking laughter, born from his quirky personality, and appeared on numerous TV programs.
