Onishi Aguri simultaneously released two concept mini-albums, “Rock&Roll Lady Girl” and “Shitsuren Monochrome,” on October 22nd. To celebrate the release, a “mini-live and CD jacket autograph session” was held on Tuesday, October 21st, the day before the release, at the Urban Dock LaLaport Toyosu Seaside Deck Main Stage. It was 5:30 p.m., the sun had set and it was getting dark. When Onishi Aguri took the stage, the cheers were more subdued than usual. This was due to the venue’s decibel limit. Fans’ voices are usually quite loud at her live shows, so the overall volume was kept to a minimum on this day. The set list was also based on this, kicking off the concert with “Nijideku” (Simmering Love) from her mini-album “Shitsuren
Monochrome,” which features songs themed around heartbreak. Onishi’s melancholic vocals, beautiful melody, and the song’s atmosphere perfectly matched the slightly chilly season and nighttime scenery, creating a somber feeling. Next, she performed the rock ballad “Rock & Roll Lady Girl” from her rock ‘n’ roll album “Rock & Roll Lady Girl.” Her melancholic voice resonated over a relaxed rhythm. The melancholic saxophone in the interlude created a nostalgic atmosphere, which also matched the night view. “Those of you coming to this venue for the first time might be surprised by what you see, but we have an 80-decibel limit, so everyone is enjoying themselves quietly. You’re all usually so much more energetic! You’re almost loud! (laughs)” she said, to which the fans responded subtly. “I performed two songs from my concept mini-album, which is all new songs. They were perfect for 80 decibels, weren’t they?” she said, before concluding with one more song, the refreshing rock number “Hadashi no Stamp.” This song is included in “Rock & Roll Lady Girl,” but it’s also about heartbreak. Given the melody, if it were a normal concert, the crowd would likely cheer louder and get more excited, but on this day, they listened intently to her voice. By the way, in the music video, you can see Onishi frolicking on the beach, so I hope you enjoy this song there as well. After the mini-live, she interacted with fans at a signing session and concluded the release event. –How was today’s release event? Onishi: Everyone listened to the live performance in a relaxed atmosphere, keeping the volume below 80 decibels (laughs). I’m glad they seemed to enjoy it. I thought it was unusual to sing such a mellow song at a release event, so it was very refreshing. At the autograph signing event, everyone commented, “The city lights and the songs matched really well,” which was nice. –Who do you want to listen to your two albums? Onishi: I think “Shitsuren Monochrome” is the perfect mini-album for this season. I’d love for people who like sad J-POP to listen to it!
