With this event in Sapporo, THE KNOT has now hosted events at all four hotels, starting with THE KNOT TOKYO Shinjuku. Sapporo is home to many soul bars, a city steeped in history by its pioneers, and a deeply rooted soul culture. I currently perform live shows in Tokyo every month, and I continue to base my activities in Sapporo, where I find my life routine of being inspired by Tokyo while also returning to Sapporo to relax and experience the unique freedom of the city. The title track of my EP “WALKING MAN,” released in 2023, was aired on TOKYO FM’s “MURO presents KING OF DIGGIN’,” causing a buzz, and I was even able to release a 7-inch record. At the release party held at Shin-Maru Building in Tokyo, MACKA-CHIN and NORTHXSOUTH, who are also participating in today’s event, DJed and sang for me. The venue was packed, and I was able to experience Tokyo’s soul culture firsthand. I was looking forward to this event, hoping to experience the same Seoul culture atmosphere in Sapporo as in Tokyo. Sapporo is a city with many music lovers, so when I heard that MURO, MACKA-CHIN, and CAPTAIN VINYL would be performing, my friends around me were excited, saying, “This is amazing!” When I actually took the stage, the audience really knew how to enjoy black music, and everyone was very warm and welcoming. Since admission was free, it was refreshing to see children in attendance. It was a chance to bring music to people who hadn’t been able to hear it before, and I’m very grateful. I hope these kinds of events continue to be held in Sapporo in the future, and I once again felt a desire to become an “accent” through music. At “THE KNOT SAPPORO,” you can see the DJ playing through the window, so I think people passing by will stop and take an interest. I’ll be releasing my third album, “Get down,” in September of this year, and I’m also planning a solo concert at Daikanyama ORD in November. MURO will be the guest DJ. I hope everyone in Tokyo will experience live R&B and soul music. ■ Introducing Ryuto Kasahara Born in Hokkaido in 1995. A singer-songwriter based in Sapporo who performs nationwide. In 2014, he discovered R&B and went to New York to study. The following year, he made his debut at age 19. Since then, he has consistently released music, and in 2022 he formed the soul band THE SOUL EATERS. In 2023, he became a member of the grooveman Spot. He released the EP “WALKING MAN,” which he produced. In 2024, he released the EP “WALKING MAN REMIX,” featuring R&B singer JASMINE, JAGGLA from the hip-hop crew Japanese Magenies, DJ Mitsu the Beats, and DJ WATARAI. He also actively collaborates with other artists,
collaborating with Hanah Spring. He released “Keep Your Head Up” (feat. Ruto Kasahara) and “Mellow90’s.” His credits include Skoop On Somebody, jazz pianist Yusuke Hirado, B.I.G. Joe, NAGMATIC, and many others.
