As a special program, we will be holding the “PORTLAND ARTISAN WINE TERRACE,” a tasting event where you can enjoy Portland and Oregon wines. Portland is known as a leader in specialty coffee, craft beer, and hard cider culture, but Oregon wine has been gaining attention in recent years. Pinot Noir in particular has received global acclaim, and small-batch urban wineries and natural winemakers are creating a new movement. This time, a winemaker from Portland will be offering a tasting of carefully selected wines. Enjoy a diverse lineup of sparkling, white, and red wines to your heart’s content under the autumn sky. Additionally, Seed to Plate, a chef team leading the local production and consumption movement, will be visiting Japan for the second year in a row. Finger foods featuring seasonal ingredients will create exquisite pairings with the wines. A pop-up market featuring Portland craft beer and hard cider will also be set up within the venue. Another attraction is the opportunity to purchase rare items on the spot. The event will be held at “de aone TERRACE CLUB,” located on the rooftop of “JIYUGAOKA de aone,” a new complex in Jiyugaoka that opened in October 2023. Enjoy Portland’s rich culture and flavors while sipping a drink in this open, green space close to the sky.

Originally a civil engineer, he lost his job during the 2008 Lehman Shock, which prompted him to seek a new life option. He spent about two years trying various jobs, and that’s when he discovered the world of wine. He started out working in the tasting room of a small winery and at farmers’ markets. As he got involved in harvesting and working in the fields, he became captivated by the allure of winemaking itself. In 2012, he became the manager of a wine bar in Portland. The bar also offered its own brewery, and his decision to try it himself marked the beginning of the birth of Jackalope Wine Cellars. Their initial production was just 90 cases. However, they continued to steadily hone their skills and now produce 15,000 cases. They produce distinctive wines, focusing on Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, and Pinot Noir. And now, Corey himself will be visiting Japan for the event! This will be a rare opportunity to hear about his journey and gain a deeper understanding of Portland’s urban winery scene. GRAPE INK GRAPE INK Owner and producer Jarrad Huddy gained experience as a viticultural and winemaking consultant at a chateau in France before returning to his native Oregon. He saw great potential in the emerging Tualatin Hills AVA and opened a vineyard with conviction. His style is truly artisanal. He views wine as a living thing with a life cycle, and instead of being bound by a set schedule, he vinifies it in accordance with the flavor of the grapes and the vintage. As a result, he produces small quantities of high-quality wine. All of his vineyards have been converted to natural farming, and no herbicides, fungicides, or pesticides are used. Biodiversity is increased by planting a variety of varieties and introducing native and perennial species, and mechanical intervention is minimized by repeated manual work depending on the climate and the condition of the trees. The label design was created by his wife, Julia, who is also an artist. Their wines, inspired by their lives and their vineyards, exude fruitiness that seems almost alive, and you can feel the wind and breath of the vineyards with every sip. GC Wines GC Wines Based in Portland, GC Wines weaves the stories of the land and people of Oregon, North America, into their wines. Since its launch in 2002, for over 20 years, the company has worked with sustainable grape growers in Oregon and Washington to reflect the resonance of the land (terroir) and the winemaker in its wines. At the heart of this philosophy is the concept of “land-born wines to be enjoyed with food.” The wines are crafted with a focus on the climate, geology, and winemakers of the grape-producing region. Their primary wine-producing regions include the northern Willamette Valley and Columbia Gorge regions of Oregon. Key concepts behind their wines include hand-picked harvests, gentle natural fermentation, organic farming, and
sustainable farming. Typical varieties include Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, as well as more unusual grapes such as Melon de Bourgogne and Gamay, which richly express the regional characteristics. Introducing the Chef Team Coming to Japan from Portland “SEED TO PLATE TOUR JAPAN 2025” Led by Stacey Givens, owner and chef of Side Yard Farm, a symbol of Portland urban farming, local chefs, creators, and winemakers visit Japan every year to meet with farmers and hold dinner events. This year, Stacey will not be coming to Japan as she is preparing to open a new farm and restaurant, but a selection of renowned chefs handpicked by Stacey will be joining the event to serve special finger foods at the wine tasting event.
