Tokyo Deafblind Friendship Association, Certified NPO Press Release: October 28, 2025 “Learn about Deaf-Blind People!” – Screening of the film “Sakura-Colored Wind Blooms” & Lecture by Fukushima Satoshi – Held on Monday, November 3rd (national holiday) at Bunkyo University Koshigaya Campus. Students and the general public are welcome to join in the “connecting” experience. The Tokyo Deafblind Friendship Association (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo), a certified NPO, is a member of the Developmental Education Program at Bunkyo University’s Faculty of Education. Together with a team of special needs education faculty (Koshigaya City, Saitama Prefecture), we will be screening the film “Cherry Blossom Wind Blooms” and holding a lecture by Satoshi Fukushima, the model for the film. How can people connect with “words” and “others” when they are blind or deaf? Through the film and the stories of those affected, we will spend the afternoon thinking about the essence of communication, diversity, and coexistence. Participation is free. Information is provided. University and high school students, as well as the general public, are welcome. This event is being held as part of the “Deaf-Blindness Awareness Program for Young People,” a social welfare promotion grant project funded by the Welfare and Medical Services Agency (WAM) in fiscal year 2025. This work reexamines the power of words, human support, and the meaning of learning. Deaf-blind. Lost his sight at age 9 and his hearing at age 18. Specializes in disability studies. He serves as a director of the National Association of the Deaf-Blind. His works include “Living as a Deaf-Blind Person” (Akashi Shoten) and “My Life is with Words” (Chichi Publishing).
