Break new ground in variety shows by combining technology and laughter KDDI Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: KDDI (CEO: Hiroji Matsuda) has announced that it will collaborate with Nippon Television Network Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hiroyuki Fukuda) and CyberAgent (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Susumu Fujita) to produce “Bikkuri Island,” a completely new vertical short variety show featuring AI and humans. The show will be available on the official Bikkuri Island TikTok account (Produced by KDDI) from November 17, 2025.

Through this initiative, KDDI will further convey the appeal of short content. ■About “Bikkuri Island” The cast includes a star-studded cast including Toshifumi Fujimoto (FUJIWARA), Sayuri Matsumura, Tetsuta Seki (ONE N’ ONLY), Kana Kajiwara, Aoi Mizobata, and Kuro-chan (Yasuda Dai Circus). They take on a variety of short projects set in an “unimaginable world” generated by AI. Set on “AI Island,” humans become entangled in a surreal world created by AI. AI-generated scenes that are impossible in reality unfold one after another, and the cast members express genuine surprise and laughter in the visual space. A representative series is “Bibiri Sentai,” in which members transform into superheroes in a virtual world created by AI. The cast members react with real surprise, make comments, and act funny in a world where AI-generated images, such as falls, explosions, and transformations, are unfolding. Other features include “AI Staring Contest,” where participants seriously stare at videos of funny faces made by AI, and a variety of other elements where participants are at the mercy of AI’s
imagination. The show is scheduled to be streamed at least four times a week. Planner and producer Tsutomu Suzuki commented on the show, “We hope you enjoy the short content we’ve brought you with Fujimoto and the other wonderful cast members, with the theme of surprises filled with love (AI)!” After completing the first shoot, Fujimoto commented, “I feel like variety shows have come a long way! I think we’ll be able to deliver a much more evolved variety show.” AI sets the tone, humans respond. When I read the script, it said “together with AI.” It was my first time doing something like that, so I wondered, “What does that mean?” But once we actually started filming, I immediately understood, “Oh, so that’s what it was.” While there were parts where we acted out the story as if it were a drama, there was also a mix of variety-style improvisation, which was a new experience for me, but it was a lot of fun. I haven’t had many opportunities to work with comedians, so I learned a lot. ■Please give us a message of highlights for viewers looking forward to the stream. Honestly, I don’t know what the finished product will look like, but I think it will far exceed my imagination. I hope you’ll pay attention to this new aspect of using AI to overcome barriers to expression that humans alone cannot. But it also felt a bit strange (laughs). The background moved along with the camera, and the filming method, which incorporated AI, was completely different from the dramas I usually shoot. background, so I took on the shoot without knowing what the finished image would look like. But after being hit with virtual sweets created by AI, you get covered in real whipped cream (lol) I think the highlight is how the real thing and virtual reality blend together.
