“C-GRAPHIC/TAIPEI” is an exhibition that spatializes the voices and work of 10 Taipei-based designers, based on the contents of the book “C-GRAPHIC INDEX,” which introduces contemporary graphic designers active in the Chinese character cultural sphere. In recent years, many graphic designers from the Chinese-speaking world have been featured in international design competitions, and their visuals have become a part of everyday life through social media. However, the cultural and social background behind this trend remains poorly understood. “C-GRAPHIC INDEX” attempts to visualize its current location by drawing auxiliary lines on the map of graphic design in the vast Chinese character cultural sphere. The “C” in “C-GRAPHIC” stands for Chinese as a language. This exhibition focuses on graphic design related to culture and art by designers from the millennial and Gen Z generations born in the 1980s and 1990s, primarily in Taipei, where traditional Chinese characters are used. Where and what did these designers study? What influences influence their designs? How do they live? What thoughts do they have when they create? Through the actual exhibits of works that cannot be fully conveyed in the pages of a book, you can learn about the multi-layered creative backgrounds of these designers. We hope that through these works, you can experience, both verbally and visually, how Taipei designers are connecting with the city and shaping the culture of the 2020s.
