Press Release: October 28, 2025 At the Tokyo Drama Awards 2025, “Serial Drama W: Golden Kamuy – The Battle for the Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoner” and “Drama W: Koki Mitani’s “Hey, Dazai”” won the Excellence Award. “Golden Kamuy: The Battle for the Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoner,” produced, broadcast, and streamed by WOWOW Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President, and CEO: Hitoshi Yamamoto; hereinafter “WOWOW”), won the Excellence Award in the Serial Drama category at the Tokyo Drama Awards 2025, and “Drama W: Koki Mitani’s ‘Hey, Dazai'” won the Excellence Award in the Standalone Drama category at the same awards. This will be the first time that one of our programs has won the Excellence Award at the Tokyo Drama Awards since “Serial Drama W: Fence” won in 2023. Sugimoto (Yamazaki Kento), a former soldier nicknamed “Invincible Sugimoto” who survived the Russo-Japanese War, is searching for 24 “tattooed prisoners” with codes carved into them that indicate the location of a gold nugget, along with an Ainu girl named Asirpa (Yamada Anna) and an escaped prisoner from Abashiri Prison, Shiraishi (Yamoto Yuma). However, the prisoners are also targeted by Tsurumi (Tamaki Hiroshi) and Ogata (Maeda Go Atsuyuki), leaders of the Imperial Japanese Army’s 7th Division, and Hijikata (Tachi Hiroshi), known as the Shinsengumi’s “Demon Vice-Commander.” On their journey, Sugimoto and his friends encounter a host of characters whose intentions are difficult to read, including Kiroranke (Ikeuchi Hiroyuki), an old friend of Asirpa’s father; Inca(R)mat (Takahashi Maryjun), an Ainu woman; Ienaga (Sakurai Yuki), the proprietress of the Sapporo World Hotel; and Natsutaro (Shiono Akihisa), a former yakuza. On the way home from the wedding reception he attended with his wife Miyoko (Miyazawa Emma), Kensaku accidentally wanders into the seaside where Dazai attempted a double suicide. Excited to be in a place associated with Dazai, Kensaku makes his way through a dark cave. Appearing at the end of the cave are Dazai Osamu (Matsuyama Kenichi) and his girlfriend Tomiko (Koike Eiko). Having traveled back in time, Kensaku falls in love with Tomiko at first sight. However, in real history, the two would soon commit double suicide. Wanting to save Tomiko, Kensaku rushes to help!
