Currently based at Bunkyo Civic Hall, the orchestra performs over 100 times a year, including regular concerts, participation in music festivals and events across the country, appearances in youth development programs such as school tours sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, concerts featuring diverse ensembles that utilize the unique characteristics of wind instruments, and wind orchestra clinics. In 2002, the orchestra welcomed Yutaka Sado as its principal conductor, and has since toured the country annually. Recently, the orchestra has welcomed a diverse range of guest conductors, including Keitaro Harada, Akira Miyagawa, and Hiroshi Aoshima, to expand its activities, making use of its wide-ranging repertoire. In 2017, the orchestra welcomed Miho Hasama as its composer-in-residence, and in 2019, the orchestra actively promoted wind orchestra works, performing a series of new pieces commissioned from eight composers from Japan and abroad. Starting with a business partnership with Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, and Bunkyo Civic Hall in October 2010, the band has since formed partnerships with Shobi University, Joetsu University of Education, Joetsu Bunka Kaikan, Nagoya College of Music, Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and Fuji Rose Theater. In addition to their wide-ranging performance activities, the band is also actively engaged in activities closely linked to local communities and educational institutions. The band has released numerous CDs and DVDs, including the “SUPER SOUND COLLECTION Studio Ghibli Wind Orchestra,” a collection of original arrangements of Studio Ghibli music.
