Venues & Projects SKWAT KAMEARI ART CENTRE feat. Herzog & de Meuron, Takashi Homma, and OMA/AMO, and Daikei Mills Skwat Kameari Art Centre (SKAC) is a new cultural hub opened in 2024 in a renovated building that was once used as a railway depot. The space will house the headquarters of design studio Daikei Mills, a bookstore by
twelvebooks, a record shop by Vinyl Delivery Service, a cafe, and a gallery space. Capsule Plaza Tokyo will host three special projects focusing on the interplay between architecture and publishing. – Among the vast collection of books in the Twelve Books space, six reading spaces featuring furniture from Herzog & de Meuron’s Objects collection will be set up, providing a space where visitors can browse all six volumes of “Herzog & de Meuron: The Complete Works.” – A video installation featuring Takashi Homma’s most iconic series capturing Tokyo’s architectural landscape (such as his masterpieces “Tokyo Suburbs” (1998) and “Tokyo Olympia” (2023)) will allow visitors to experience the photographer’s tranquil visual poetry. ・ To celebrate the 30th anniversary of “OMA: The Generic City,” the cult,
out-of-print publication dedicated to Tokyo first published in 1995, Rem Koolhaas & Co. presents a limited reprint and special exhibition at Capsule, revisiting the visionary dialogue between urban theory and graphic design.

Harry Nuriev (Crosby Studios) Powered by Marshall Located in the vibrant Harajuku area, StandBy is a space designed by architect Designed by Nobuo Araki and curated by en one tokyo, this minimalist gallery space aims to dismantle the boundaries between disciplines and audiences, providing a canvas for cultural
experimentation. Capsule Plaza Tokyo will host a site-specific exhibition by designer and artist Harry Nuriev (Crosby Studios). Nuriev is known for his concept of Transformism and his method of transforming everyday objects into poetic installations. For this exhibition, he will collect used everyday items donated by people in Tokyo, forming a collection of personal artifacts. These items will be fused with Marshall sounds, creating a space where architecture, sound, and the body coexist in a soft collision. Here, all structures begin to dissolve, and all boundaries transform into resonance.

WAKA WAKA, Lichen, and Echo Park Pottery Powered by La Designed by architect Keiji Ashizawa, Marzocco’s Karimoku Commons is a hybrid showroom and event space for special projects that expand the brand’s ethos, showcasing the unparalleled craftsmanship and attention to detail of Japan’s leading wooden furniture manufacturer. At Capsule Plaza Tokyo, the space will be transformed into a pop-up cafe and bookshop, highlighting two artists who have recently collaborated with Karimoku: Los Angeles-based studio Waka, who reinterprets traditional Japanese furniture with their “Wagetsu” collection; and New York-based studio Lichen, comprised of Jared Blake and Ed Be, who combine playful proportions, functionality, and cross-cultural storytelling with their “Karimoku Re:issue” and “CMPT” collections. Named CORE, the space will feature Peter Shire’s Echo Park Pottery in partnership with Italian luxury coffee maker LA MARZOCCO, providing an authentic espresso experience.

Jiro Nagase T-HOUSE is a design studio and retail space established by New Balance in 2020. Designed by Jo Nagasaka (Schemata Architects), the project was realized by
dismantling a 122-year-old storehouse in Kawagoe and relocating it to a site in Chuo Ward. Capsule Plaza Tokyo will host a solo exhibition by Yamanashi-based designer Jiro Nagase. Known for his sculptural works using aluminum and mixed media to explore themes of form, tension, and spatial relationships, Nagase evokes Zen minimalism and traditional Japanese aesthetics while incorporating contemporary industrial materials and processes. His work explores the generation of rhythmic sound and the joy of handmade, utilitarian objects for everyday use. In this exhibition, selected works by Nagase will seamlessly blend into the T-HOUSE space, highlighting the dialogue between his work and the architectural elements.

Capsule gift shop CIBONE is a design store located on the basement floor of the Gyre Building in Omotesando. In addition to selling carefully selected furniture, home décor, and lifestyle goods from a variety of domestic and international brands, the store also hosts events, exhibitions, and pop-up stores. At Capsule Plaza Tokyo, CIBONE will open a gift shop specially curated by the company, featuring Capsule magazine, merchandise, collaboration items, and more in special exhibition spaces featuring brands like NM3, Max Lamb, and Bless.
