She is a special lecturer at Kusaen Nursery School and an advisor to the NPO “Music for Japanese Smiles.” She received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award twice, in 2013 and 2021, for her efforts to widely convey the beauty of the Japanese language and the Japanese spirit through children’s songs and traditional folk songs. ■Saori Yuki (Saori Yuki) Singer/Actress She debuted in 1969 with “Scat at Dawn.” It was an explosive hit, sparking a scat boom. She has won numerous awards for songs such as “Tegami” and “Koibun.” She won the Mainichi Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1983 film “Kazoku Game.” In the fall of 2011, she released the collaborative album “1969” with the American jazz orchestra Pink Martini. It was released and distributed in over 50 countries worldwide, becoming a global hit. In the fall of 2012, she received the Purple Ribbon Medal.
