They began their careers as children’s song singers. They then went their separate ways, first in classical music and then in showbiz. Encouraged by their mother’s words, “A song that moves people doesn’t matter what genre it is. Can’t we sing together?”, they performed on stage together. Since 1986, they have continued their activities with the desire to pass on the Japanese songs left behind by their ancestors to children. In 2025, they will celebrate their 39th year, and are currently holding the “Saori Yuki, Sachiko Yasuda with Yuki Matsusaka Children’s Song Concert.” ■ Sachiko Yasuda (Vocalist) She attended Tokyo University of the Arts and pursued a classical musical career. She made her vocal debut as Susanna in the opera “The Marriage of Figaro.” She has appeared in numerous operas, from Mozart to Wagner. She studied at the Juilliard School in New York and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. She served as a lecturer at Tokyo University of the Arts for 18 years before retiring to focus on concert activities. She also achieved great success as a voice trainer, with her students appearing in musicals by Shiki Theatre Company and other companies. She is a special lecturer at Kusaen Nursery School and an advisor to the NPO “Music for Japanese Smiles.” She received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award twice, in 2013 and 2021, for her efforts to widely convey the beauty of the Japanese language and the Japanese spirit through children’s songs and traditional folk songs. ■Saori Yuki (Saori Yuki) Singer/Actress She debuted in 1969 with “Scat at Dawn.” It was an explosive hit, sparking a scat boom. She has won numerous awards for songs such as “Tegami” and “Koibun.” She won the Mainichi Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1983 film “Kazoku Game.” In the fall of 2011, she released the collaborative album “1969” with the American jazz orchestra Pink Martini. It was released and distributed in over 50 countries worldwide, becoming a global hit. In the fall of 2012, she received the Purple Ribbon Medal. In 2019, she received the Order of the Rising Sun, Shoseki. 2024: Celebrating 55 years since her debut as Yuki Saori, she held the “Yuki Saori 55th Concert ~New Me~.” She performed shamisen and singing. May 28, 2025: Released “SHOW(昭) TIME!” (Universal Music). “Yuki Saori Concert 2025” is currently being held.
