ScriptwriterYuji Sakamoto. Yuji Sakamoto won the Best Screenplay Award at the 76th Cannes Film Festival for his film “Kaibutsu,” and this year saw the release of two films, “First Kiss” and “Unrequited Love,” continuing to dominate the entertainment world. His play, “Mata Kokoka” (Mata Kokoka) (published by Little More), which he wrote in 2018, is being revived after eight years. The play is directed by Ryo Arai, who has directed many international plays and recently received acclaim for his direction of “Heaven Eyes” (by David Almond). Arai and Sakamoto first became acquainted when Arai served as assistant director for a reading performance by Yuji Sakamoto. A talk with Yuji Sakamoto is scheduled for the 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM performances on Wednesday, February 11th (national holiday), where he will share behind-the-scenes stories about the writing of this play. The cast includes Okuno So as Chikasugi Yuutaro, Baba Fumika as Takai Narumi, Nagase Riko as Shimeno Kayako, and Asari Yosuke as Nemori Masato, bringing together a diverse cast of unique actors, all appearing in a Sakamoto work for the first time. After-show talks with all the cast members are scheduled for the 7 PM performance on Friday, February 6th and the 7 PM performance on Thursday, February 12th, so be sure to tune in to see what they have to say. It has an aspect of my own story that I haven’t written much about elsewhere, and I’m secretly fond of it. I’ve been wanting to see it again, and now Arai-san has volunteered to perform it again.
