GILLOCHINDOX☆GILLOCHINDAE, an artist whose work focuses on the themes of cities and youth, will be held. The “Beast” series, which has been running for seven years, is a feature-length project that explores the boundary between urban and human life through the protagonist, a black beast. This exhibition marks the fourth installment and the largest installation in the series. The setting is the Tamagawa riverbank, where the artist himself spent his childhood. Golden pampas grass swaying, the water’s surface sparkling in the breeze, memories of the suburbs bathed in afternoon light. A magnificent installation space featuring approximately 60,000 Japanese pampas grass plants and a 15-meter-long artificial bank will appear at the venue. The subtitle “EDGE” represents humans standing on the edge of all kinds of boundaries—life and death, reality and fantasy, city and nature. GILLOCHINDOX☆GILLOCHINDAE delves into the roots of human existence through immature impulses and the “cracks” carved into the city. The venue will feature a screening of a film by filmmaker Taro that utilizes cinematic techniques, as well as a series of performances by various artists, all of which will transcend genre boundaries. “Beast” is an attempt to experience the memories and impulses of young men living in the suburbs as a modern urban myth. A new story emerges from the “rift” in the landscape. GCmagazine “TURN OFF THE 5 PARADIGM LIGHTS”
https://prcdn.freetls.fastly.net/release_image/86642/15/86642-15-845643a2e46ecf7645fc48498164bfce-3900×2600.jpg GCmagazine, a collective of young artists, creates works that critically address the norms inherent in photographic expression and the mythology of the “decisive moment.” We will be exhibiting their installation, “TURN OFF THE 5 PARADIGM LIGHTS.” This work centers around a performance in which a car is pushed around Suzuka Circuit in midsummer, and the video and photographs that document the process. Using a car wrapped with photos taken during the performance and a special racing suit with a color chart function, the work questions the value of process and labor in photography. On the first day of the event, we will be holding a performance in which we will actually push a vehicle into the venue. This is an experimental approach unique to GCmagazine, which expands photography beyond mere visual expression to include physicality, action, and exhibition format. *The content of this project may change depending on the situation. Please note that it may be difficult to give advance notice.
tea-common(s) “tea-common(s)” explores the potential of “publicness” in Asia, treating the entire parking lot area as an impromptu pan-Asian public space. Based on the premise that the concept of publicness and the very notion of Asia are of Western origin, the project aims to create a space where people can relax and interact, inspired by the public nature of “chatting over tea.” “6okken,” an artist-run residency based in six houses at the foot of Mount Fuji, has been conducting collective research in Asia. During the project, guests from across Asia will be invited to hold public conferences. beatfic experiment, which supports disaster-stricken areas, has installed a radio monument where you can listen to Noto’s community FM station. A radio monument will be set up in the center of the space. Several performances, including Hashimoto Romance’s “Kuma Noh,” are scheduled to take place around the area. In addition, the blackboards in the tea drinking area correspond to the color-coded tents. Visitors can write down topics they want to discuss or workshops they want to hold, providing a mechanism for them to actively participate in creating the space and building future solidarity. What is EASTEAST_? EASTEAST_ is a Tokyo-based art fair founded by cultural practitioners working in diverse fields, including art, fashion, architecture, design, and music, with a spirit of independence and solidarity. Our management team, who are engaged in daily practice in the field, bring to the table the challenges and questions that arise from their experiences and plan and manage the project with a flexible, critical perspective. The participating galleries and collectives (spaces) range from those actively expanding
internationally to those deeply rooted in local or specific
communities. Each explores expression within the context and rhythm of its own environment, and each practice is positioned as an important part of contemporary expression. EASTEAST_ continuously supports young artists who will shape the culture of the future and those who nurture culture in their own unique ways. We also introduce diverse local practices that are not overly institutionalized, while maintaining a global perspective. We share the city’s current state with the world from a perspective that values the reality and potential of expression, rather than the timing of evaluation. EASTEAST_ is an art fair as well as an experimental platform for exploring new cultural ecosystems originating in Asia. It aims to be a forum where
commerciality and cultural practice coexist and where new
relationships and perspectives can emerge. EASTEAST_ Purpose Statement has been published on the website easteast.org For more information on the background, philosophy, and management stance of EASTEAST_, please see the “EASTEAST_ Purpose Statement” on our website. “EASTEAST_ Purpose Explanation” Contents: 1.
